ABOUT THE ATTORNEYS

Esner & Chang consists of partners Stuart Esner and Andrew Chang and associate Holly N. Boyer. Both of the firm’s partners are certified by the State Bar’s Board of Legal Specialization as specialists in appellate law. The firm handle appeals and writs in civil, criminal, and family law cases in all state and federal courts.

Stuart B. Esner graduated magna cum laude from Loyola Law School of Los Angeles in1982. He then worked as a law clerk for the Honorable John L. Cole in the writs and receivers department of the Los Angeles Superior Court, and for more than four years as a research attorney for Associate Justice Eugene McClosky at the Second Appellate District Court of Appeal, Division Four. He gained further appellate experience as an associate at Horvitz & Levy (then Horvitz, Levy & Amerian), before co-founding the appellate firm now known as Esner & Chang in 1990. Since 1989, Mr. Esner has been an adjunct Professor of Law at Loyola Law School of Los Angeles teaching appellate advocacy. He was selected as a Southern California "Super Lawyer" for 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2009 (and selected in 2007 as one ofthe top 100 lawyers in Southern California) and was named the Appellate Lawyer of the Year by Consumer’s the Attorney Association of Los Angeles for 2005.

Andrew N. Chang is a certified specialist in appellate law, certified by the State BarBoard of Legal Specialization. He received his J. D. in 1978 from Hastings College of the Law inSan Francisco where he was on Law Review and a member of the Thurston Society. Afterworking as a litigation associate at the San Francisco firm of Pettit & Martin, Mr. Chang worked for two years as a staff attorney at the California Supreme Court. In 1984 he furthered his appellate career as an associate at the appellate firm of Horvitz & Levy in Encino, California. In 1989 he returned to the Bay Area where he continued his appellate practice, and in 1995, Mr. Chang joined Mr. Esner to continue the appellate firm now known as Esner & Chang. He has participated in a number of seminars on appellate matters, and is a past chair of the StateBar’s Committee on Appellate Courts. Mr. Chang was selected as a Northern California "SuperLawyer" for 2007, 2008 and 2009, and was named the Appellate Lawyer of the Year by theConsumer’s Attorney Association of Los Angeles for 2007.

Holly N. Boyer received her undergraduate degree at the University of Arizona in 2000 and her law degree from Southwestern University School of Law in 2002, where she was aparticipant in Southwestern's Conceptual Approach to Legal Education (S. C. A. L. E. ), an intensive two-year law program. While at Southwestern, she served as staff member for the Southwestern University Law Review and member of the Moot Court Honors Program. Holly also externed for the Honorable Arthur Alarcon of the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals. Following law school, Holly joined Murchison & Cumming, LLP and became a member of the firm's Law and Motion Department. In 2004, Holly then joined the prominent Plaintiffs' firm McNicholas & McNicholas, LLP as the firm's law and appellate attorney, assisting the firm in all areas of motion and appellate practice. In October 2007, Holly joined Esner & Chang. She was recently selected as a Southern California "Rising Star" for 2008. Since 2006, Holly has also been a member of the Southwestern University Law School as an Adjunct Professor of Lawteaching California Civil Procedure.
